Act One is set in a country bar somewhere in small town America. Short stories are not my thing, and the subject of most of these were pretty dark, drug laiden and violent. There wasn’t a character to root for in the whole thing.
In a Kafka-esque way. A young girl, caught up in an inner-city gang war, crosses the line from victim to avenger. There are missing pieces that you just fill in, characters seem to “float”, and the voronado that you know is going to happen still sneaks up on you in an odd way.

I think I might be a novel kind of gal because short stories seem to leave me wanting more. Oct 24, Heather rated it liked it. A pair of blue-collar low lifes, a father David Preston and his son Bobby Samuel Dahlare engaging in some spiky, hostile conversation as Bobby tries to extract some information about the mother he never knew and the whereabouts of his girlfriend Gwen Alexandra Oliver. Where those elements pop up in these stories, the book works well.
I hate trapeze artists. He has written several novels, including the New York Times bestseller Mystic River, which was later made into an Academy Award winning film, also called Mystic River, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Kevin Bacon Lehane can be briefly seen waving from a car in the parade scene at the end of the film.
It quickly becomes apparent that Bobby’s father has retrieved him only to find out where the heist loot is hidden, and Bobby, in turn, needs to know what happened to his girlfriend, Gwen. I only wish he’d write more short collections like this.

Did not realize it was short stories, not a big fan of short stories, but they were good, at the end however was a play, based on one of the short stories, and it was very nicely done.
This one alone is worth reading the whole collection. You do see these things if you read enough books, lehan a lot of movies, etc. Dennis Lehane is simply in a class of his own Hardcover Amazon Barnes and Noble. Dennis Lehane born Aug 4th, is an American author.
However, this contained none of his compelling aspects for me. They kind of meld together for me, and because they are of similar theme–mahem, doronado The title of the book is the title of the play that the last short story was turned into.
Player King Productions is dedicated to honoring the art of theatre by challenging its very nature. Coromado by Dennis Lehane. I just thought demnis weren’t as fleshed out as the other stories here, like Lehane was trying to finish the story before it was ready to be done.
I think if you like short stories, this book would appeal t I love Dennis Lehane and almost anything he writes, but I just couldn’t get into many of these stories.

Dennis Lehane is one of my favorite authors. The stories mostly felt like they were voronado something, and were at times rather unengaging. In his Kenzie-Genarro series, six books beginning with “A Drink Before the War,” he writes the characters, feelings, and overall aura of that city, and continues to do so in “The Given Day,” probably his best novel yet. It takes the two antagonizing characters from “Until Gwen” and fleshes them out, adding a deep back story and a heartbreaking yet hopeful resolution I think if you like short stories, this book would appeal to you more than it did me.
This stuff has some common ground with Andre’ Dubus’ stories. I seriously hope that Lehane uses his stories and novels to put all the evil he perceives in the world because if he looks at daily life this coronaso he’ll be just another part of the body count.
