Usually when I read a book where one of the characters is forced into slavery my feelings are mostly on the side of dounterpoint slave. Both races blame the other for a long standing war and the situation in the wild lands where the animals are twisted into dark beasts.

Now you can a have a really sexist fantasy-world and spent no more thoughts on it b have equal-opportunity middle-ages where women can be rulers, generals etc. It focused more on the hate between humans and elves and the intrigue at the human court than on the romance.

It’s been frustrating to say the least that I’ve had to wait for this book to be written and then, once it was out, had to wait through some other reviewing commitments before I had to get to it!

In the previous book, Ayden and Freyrik had to face their own prejudice and that of Freyrik’s people t Awwww! Depleted by generations of war with a dark race, the human kingdoms and their ancient alliance stand on the brink of extinction. I felt I needed more information.

It is your people who paint me like a harlot and parade me round half-naked, your people who find it amusing to use my brethren like toys, your people who teach their children such high art of disrespect that boys think rape a pleasant way to pass an afternoon!

Be warned and get both books at once! Freyrik also had to make impossible choices. To a certain extend. Conveniently Freyrick doesn’t belive her for even a second because that might at least have made for some good character-development and made a change from Ayden’s constant pouting and feeling insulted by Freyricks presence and Freyrick thinking about Ayden’s hotness but that was apparently the less interesting possibility to come out of this.

Thanks for the accept.

I think the payoff of a happy ending is too far away for me to feel comfortable with the emotional investment so far but I am likely to continue with book two after a break away from the story. If you have to repeat “something” like how he feels for example on nearly every page it uncovers how desperately you need to convince the reader that it is true – sounds like author is even reasoning with herself.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I can sign under every single word. View all 48 comments.
